Kaküno is a delightful, new fountain pen that is ideal for both first time fountain pen users and experienced writers. Everyone can enjoy writing with a Kaküno fountain pen. "Kaküno" means "to write" in Japanese, and that's just what this pen helps users to do by featuring an appealing smiley face on the nib, when oriented upward, ensures perfect nib orientation. The pastel capped white barrel pens feature the Fine Nib (with a winking smiley face) while the primary color capped gray barrel options feature the Medium Nib (with a traditional smiley face). Indentations in the cap make it easy to grasp when uncapping the pen. The cap and body are hexagonal, similar to the classic wooden pencil, so that the pen is comfortable to hold and doesn't roll away. Novices will soon be on their way to becoming seasoned fountain pen users, and seasoned users will enjoy the fun, exuberant writing the Kaküno fountain pen delivers.

  • Ideal for beginner and expert fountain pen users to develop their writing skills
  • Finely crafted nib features an appealing smiley face, which ensures perfect writing position when oriented upward
  • Available in Fine and Medium nibs
  • Each pen includes one ink cartridge

True to Its Claims: A Smooth Writer That's Easy to Pick Up

I recently bought the medium nib version of this pen, along with a Pilot converter to fit it. So far it writes smoothly and fairly evenly when paired with a bottle of Diamine ink (Aurora Borealis colour). Feedback from the nib feels light to moderate, though I am new to fountain pens and don't yet have much discernment in this area.

My only wish would be to see a heavier, brass or steel version of this pen. But for a base price $21 CAD, this is a great value!
